How much does a magician cost for a children's birthday party, and what should be included in the program?

Hi Scott!

I’ve been looking around for a child’s birthday party magician in the Toronto GTA area. How much will it cost to have a magician perform at my child’s birthday party?

Hi Lily - thanks for the question!

The price of a hiring professional magician in Toronto can vary. Keep these 3 factors in mind when selecting, because the right magician can make your event, but the wrong magician can leave you wondering how you were fooled.

  1. Professional vs Amateur - As in life, you get what you pay for. This can be especially true when hiring a children’s entertainer for your child’s next birthday party. This doesn’t mean you should just hire the most expensive magician you find, because price alone doesn’t mean quality. But as attractive as an amateur’s prices may seem, there is a big gap in not only their experience in the industry, but the quality of experience they’ll provide your guests. Professionals who make their living as a magician, know that their livelihood depends on the quality of service they provide their clients. As a professional children’s magician myself, the vast majority of my work comes from referrals, and even when I’m all booked up, I will always refer to another professional I trust, to ensure everyone has a magical experience.

  1. Size/Type of Event - The size of your event, and whom it is for will also factor into a magician’s price. As an example, a corporate Christmas party magic show for 100 children will cost much more than a birthday party magic show for a dozen kids in your living room. Also, for larger events, the magician may need to bring their own audio/visual equipment. There are additional requirements that a professional magician must account for in playing to larger audiences which factors into their price.

  1. Add-Ons - Many Toronto birthday party magician’s offer add-ons to their birthday party magic shows, ex. Balloons, Books, Magic Lessons, etc. This is in addition to the magic show itself, which generally run 30 - 40 minutes. This seems to be the sweet spot when it comes to a length of time that will keep children thoroughly engaged. I personally offer a 40 minute birthday party magic show in which children are even taught to perform a couple of tricks, then given the opportunity to pet my live bunny. If you want the fun to continue, I also offer a 20 minute add-on of either balloon sculpting or a mini magic workshop for an additional fee. There is much fun to be had by all.
